Under 14s .Oxford Stars 6 IOW Lightnings 1 .Sat 6th Feb.
After our comprehensive win against Oxford at home expectations were high for this game away.
The home ice suited the Oxford star player No 18 John Jentish who set the tone of the game almost scoring in the first few seconds.
Although Lightnings took control of the game with some good possession it was Oxfords No 18 scoring a breakaway goal to end the deadlock.
This was a wake up call for Lightnings. Sean Molloy replied with a fine high shot that bounced off the goalies glove into the back of the net to bring the game all square.
But it was plain this game on big ice was not going to suit Lightnings as Oxford scored again to end the pieriod 2-1.up
Even after some changes to the lines and having more control Lightnings still found it hard to find the back of the Oxford net.
Again against the run of play the bigger stronger Oxford players over run
the Lightnings scoring two more unanswered goals ending the second 4-1 down.
This game would be a big test for the character of the Lightnings frustrated that although they had most of the possession and playing well at times, the score didn't reflect this.
In the third Oxford now with their tails up on home ice scored two more to end a bad day at the office for Lightnings .
Lightnings can take some comfort from todays game though.
Good discipline with no penalties in the game ,good team spirit , played really well at times ,worked hard to the end and took the loss well.
A lot to be pleased with and build on.
Man of the Match net minder Aaron Craft. Spirit of the game Eden Holton. |
